Cyprus President’s family spirit away millions days before bank haircut

A company owned by in-laws of Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades withdrew dozens of millions from Laiki Bank on March 12 and 13, according to an article published in Cypriot newspaper Haravgi.

Three days before the Eurogroup meeting which created the deal in which bank depositors lost percentages of their deposits the company took five promissory notes worth €21m from Laiki Bank and transferred the money to London.

Nicos Anastasiades is a member of the European People’s Party – and aligned with Fine Gael in Europe – and Enda Kenny met him while he was in opposition and has supported the moves of the Troika in imposing the new austerity on Cyprus.

  1. scum. like an “individual family” needs that money over businesses who only had that ammount of money in accounts to pay suppliers, employees, rent and bills etc… every business in the country will now have no money to pay staff etc., but as long as hes ok..sure its grand.
