The Irish Independent has subtly but substantially edited a controversial article by Paul Williams on the GSOC affair. This edit has not been acknowledged on the website.

In an article published on Tuesday 18th February 2014 here, the Irish Independent journalist Paul Williams addressed the GSOC bugging affair.

Following the publication of the article, the security firm at the centre of the controversy took the step of addressing his piece directly as they took issue with the facts as he saw them. Their rebuttal took centre-stage for the rest of the day and formed part of the argument in motions in the Oireachtas later yesterday evening.

In yesterday’s piece he wrote:

It has also emerged that the detection of a UK 3G mobile network during a sweep came from the mobile phones being used by the Verrimus security experts themselves.

Today that has been changed (without acknowledgment) to:

It has also emerged that the detection of a UK 3G mobile network during a sweep connected with the mobile phones being used by the Verrimus security experts.

  1. If it wasn’t for the various internet media sites like Rabble and Broadsheet this story might have been successfully buried days ago. Well done to all involved for not letting the fuckers off the hook
