Far Right Rising?

far right in ireland

The election of Donald Trump has emboldened the far right all over Europe. Ireland is no exception. With  the election of Trump they are starting to come out of the woodwork.

A new group calling themselves The National Party had planned a launch tomorrow in the plush surroundings of  the Merrion Square Hotel but it was cancelled by the hotel after protests by the public.

Supposed to be speaking at the launch were  nutter Justin Barrett ex Youth Defence, Mother and Child Campaign and No to Nice and James Reynolds the deputy president. Their message is of a similar rhetoric to that of Trump, anti-elitist, anti-immigration, anti multiculturalism, and of course speaking on behalf of the “silent majority”.

At the same time there seems to be a campaign of xenophobic stickers around Dublin especially up around the garden of remembrance area with stickers such as “Irish White Power” (see above), “Fuck Islam”, “Rape-ugees Welcome” beside both entrances at the weekend.

This is where the Anti Direct Provision march started from on Saturday so it is no coincidence that this is where they wanted to leave their message.

United against Racism are holding a demonstration at the US Embassy tomorrow to resist Trump’s racism, sexism, and hate. The demonstration is on at 6pm. The Facebook event page is here.
