Calling on support from TDs the Irish Traveller Movement (ITM) rallied outside the Dáil this afternoon.

In response to recent statements, and building anti-traveller sentiment from certain elected representatives which included calls for Travellers to be ghettoised and even removed to Spike Island; and in response to certain high profile attacks on travellers the ITM met at the gates of the Dáil.

They were joined by Leinster House representatives (see photos) and a crowd listened to travellers representatives such as Brigid Quilligan call for condemnation of anti-traveller incitement such as that from Fianna Fáil councillor Seán McEniff who claims travellers should be ‘isolated’.

Among those meeting with the travellers outside the gates was McEniff’s party colleague Eamon Ó Cuív. Also joining the members and reps in a jovial atmosphere were Joe Higgins, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, Gerry Adams, Finian McGrath, Richard Boyd Barrett, Joan Collins and more.
