Alexander Shulgin, the father of madouvits everywhere has died.

Back in 2010 he had suffered a stroke and his health was failing. Tragic to think that his friends at the time were forced to turn to a public appeal to secure health assistance, when so many profited from his work – be that through a positive emotional opening or just through churning out far from pure version of his product for cash monies.

The Erowid website, one of the web’s most well known psychonaut websites,  broke the news yesterday evening:

Sasha Shulgin Passes Beyond – June 2, 2014
Around 5 pm PST on June 2, 2014, our long-time friend and role model Sasha Shulgin gently died after several years of battling various illnesses. He had recently been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer.
Around 6:15 pm we received phone calls from two members of the Shulgin team letting us know the sad news. Much love to his family and those whose lives he touched, from the Erowid Crew. He died surrounded by friends and family.

We dug up this flick called Dirty Pictures to give some background on his work as the granddaddy of MDMA.

Back in 2010 he gave his last ever interview to that lank haired drug fiend that does them videos for Vice too.

It’s worth a gawk.

Comments

  1. 🙁 Wonder what’ll happen to all his chemicals.

  2. According to the Daily Mail he died from taking drugs for sixty years, not because he was 89

  3. God be good to him. He gave humanity a vast body of research on a slew of amazing and virtually unknown compounds and diligently documented the huge array of altered states the brain is capable of attaining. In spite of all this he impressively still made it up to 88, before his flux capacitor ‘fluxed’ for the final time. There goes a true King amongst men.

  4. What a loss. He was truly unique!

  5. Someone should make some special memorial tablets to celebrate his life 🙂

  6. World changing work. Shulgans life work has changed the mind sets of millions! and i truly appreciate that.

  7. Ah here Rabble…. is that meant to be a tribute to one of the most important people in history?

  8. Rest in peace, What a humble absolute genius, sad news indeed
