Sinn Féin is bringing the fight for justice for protestant survivors of the Bethany Home to the Dáil this week.
The Bethany Home in Rathgar, Dublin was a refuge or detention centre for protestant mothers & children which society deemed unfit. While the worst conditions occurred in the 1930s there are survivors to this day looking for redress. The most notable is Derek Leinster who has published books on the topic and through 2010 was responsible for the discovery of 219 unmarked graves in Mount Jerome Cemetery.
Mary Lou MacDonald has convened a meeting of TDs in Leinster House this Thursday so survivors can tell their stories.
