Imperial Stormtroopers attack rebel headshop

In Blog, Culture, Humourby Fedayn4 Comments

Bizarre set of photos from Dumskaya.net show the moment when activists attacked a headshop. The sale of synthetic drugs is seen as a problem in Odessa and, rather than waiting for some change from the police, activists are taking to the streets themselves to deal with it. These characters were dressed as Imperial Stormtroopers from the Star Wars franchise. More pics follow and full story on dumskaya.net (needs translation)

A Fistful of Bitcoins

In #rabble5, Culture, Print Editionby Ed Zillion1 Comment

Ed Zillion takes us to the wild wild west of digital culture. The Libertarian Millenium, if you will. A place where the twin technologies Bitcoin and Tor have led to the emergence of an online community like no other with its own marketplace and it’s own currency. A place inhabited by a disparate collection of cyber-utopians, digital activists, scammers and their inevitable marks. A place where you can buy LSD … Read More

Acid drug dance cult – does it affect the brain in some way? We investigate. Filmed by World In Action in 1988, it really captures some of the moral panic around the scene. Fascinating to hear how Top of The Pops banned all records that mentioned “acid.” D-Mob’s anthem ‘We Call It Acieed’ was also on the receiving end of censure. The person that made the video for the tune … Read More

Pill Warning in UK

In Blogby rabble1 Comment

Lanarkshire police have issued a warning about dirty pills. Red or yellow pills stamped with a five pointed star. Reports coming through on pillreports is that they are adulterated, maybe containing piperazine or PMA/PMMA and really badly pressed. If they’ve made it to Scotland they may very well make it it here. Police haven’t issued any reports on what substances they are made up of either. You can gauge what’s floating … Read More

Under The Influence

In #rabble5, Culture, Highlights, History, Politicsby Simon Price7 Comments

Since 1833, legislation on intoxicating liquor and associated socialising has always come at the behest of special interest groups such as the Church, the Vintners, Dev or the supermarkets. Simon Price looks at what we’re up against. The last ten years have seen government legislate NAMA and bank bailouts to the ruination of the country while any moves to alter the status quo surrounding Irish nightlife have met fierce resistance … Read More

Just before Christmas the people of Navarre witnessed a very sporting gesture from Basque athlete Iván Fernández Anaya. At the conclusion of the cross-country race Fernandez was lying second well behind Olympic bronze medallist Abel Mutai. With ten metres to go the surface changed and Mutai mistakenly believed he had crossed the line, Fernandez closed on him in the final straight. Rather than taking advantage of the mistake Fernandez ushered … Read More

License To Pill…

In #rabble5, Culture, Interviews, Politics, Print Editionby Rashers Tierney3 Comments

The media leapt on the story, falling over themselves with delight at having a “new” chemical nasty to castigate – conflating MDMA and PMA in the same breath as if it was a new party sensation. This ignorant whoring for headlines has the consequence of making recreational users just go ‘meh’ to a media that cries wolf at every stage in the drugs debate. Remember the mephedrone hysteria?

Just Say Know: An Interview With The Irish Needle Exchange Forum

Definitely the media has an important role to play, some of them have been great, others not so much. It is also the individuals who make statements to the media who have a significant responsibility to ensure that their facts are right. The whole issue with the pmma was that people reporting about it didn’t really have a grasp on what it is.

Be The Holy Smoke.

Provincial papers often provide fodder for magazine sections like The Phoenix’s Bog Cuttings. Apart from the reports of Nazi saluting drunks, men watering their horses and glass bottle fights; one thing that always stuns this rabbler is the court reports around drugs in his home town. Last Sunday Jim Cusak, a Sindo journalist published an article  saying the state has lost the war on drugs. This was apparently based on the … Read More
